Overview
Blue Photon's workholding technology started in 2011. Professor Ed De Meter of Penn State University worked with manufacturers on holding delicate, complex or near-net-shaped parts for machining without distorting them. The work led to a patent for bonding and debonding a workpiece to a fixture with a gripper that holds adhesive, conducts UV light and supports the part.
The system combines load-bearing, light-transmitting grippers with BlueGrip™ Workholding Adhesive®. Because no clamps are used, there is no need to design lugs or dovetails into the workpiece. UV curing and cleaning tools complete the setup.
The company lists aerospace, medical, optical, additive manufacturing, prototyping, ceramics, high and low volume production, and job shops as its markets. Its design, manufacturing and quality engineers continue to develop the product range. The Indian entity is based at HSIIDC Saha, Ambala Cantt, Haryana.
