Overview
The Central Manufacturing Technology Institute (CMTI) is a national research and development organisation based on Tumkur Road, Bengaluru. It is an autonomous institute under the Ministry of Heavy Industries, Government of India. It was set up in the 1960s as the Central Machine Tool Institute.
CMTI develops new machine and manufacturing process technologies, and builds specialised and customised machines, process technologies and automation systems to customer requirements. Its in-house capability covers ideation, design, manufacturing, testing and system integration.
It also provides technical services: design and manufacturing consultancy, laboratory services, technology incubation and licensing, and training programmes for industry and academic personnel.
