Kehems began in 1987 as an engineering and contracting firm in HVAC and thermal engineering, founded by Mr. D. K. Kemkar. It is now led by Ms. Kshama Jain as Managing Director. The company makes HVAC and refrigeration equipment in India under three product groups: Kriscool (cooling), Kristherm (heating) and Kristess (thermal energy storage).

The company says it works in four areas: products, project execution (installation, testing, balancing and commissioning), services, and an energy finance business. The finance model is a 36-month rental for customers who find outright purchase difficult. Kehems describes itself as a government-accredited B-category agency for financing the equipment it manufactures.

The factory is at Umrikheda near Indore and has an AHRI test bench for chiller testing. The company reports over 35 years of experience, 3467 installations, 300+ employees and 14 branches across India. It also reports 140+ in-house service professionals and 200+ thermal energy storage reference projects in India and abroad, and says it exports to Europe, South East Asia and China.
